When Andor premiered in 2022, it quickly became one of the most critically acclaimed Star Wars series ever released. Unlike other shows in the franchise, Andor took a bold approach—offering a grounded, slow-burn political thriller that explored the origins of the Rebellion with a level of depth and nuance rarely seen in Star Wars. The series, led by Diego Luna as Cassian Andor, earned widespread praise for its mature storytelling, intricate world-building, and frankly Emmy-worthy performances.

Now, Andor Season 2 is set to continue that legacy, bringing Cassian’s journey full circle as it leads directly into the events of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

Unlike Season 1, which focused on Cassian’s reluctant involvement in the Rebellion, Season 2 will span four years, showing his evolution into the battle-hardened leader fans first met in Rogue One. With each three-episode arc covering an entire year, the final moments of Andor Season 2 will seamlessly transition into Rogue One’s opening scene, making it an essential piece of the Star Wars timeline.

The anticipation among all of us Star Wars fans is palpable as we eagerly await the continuation of the best Star Wars story we've ever seen on the small screen.

In this guide, we’ll cover everything you need to know about Andor Season 2, including its official release date, cast, plot details, and what to expect from its connection to Rogue One. This sensational Star Wars franchise is set to continue to push the boundaries of storytelling and visual effects further than ever before, and we simply can't wait.

Whether you’re a longtime Star Wars fan or someone who simply fell in love with the series’ gritty realism, Andor Season 2 promises to be an unforgettable chapter in the Star Wars saga.

A Look Forward: The Details

As anticipation builds for the second season, fans have been given a ton of information about when it will return, how the episodes will be released, and even trailer details. With the series set to conclude Cassian Andor’s journey right before Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the stakes have never been higher, and now that we've survived the journey from pre-production all the way back in 2022 until now, let's see what we have in store.

When Does Andor Season 2 Come Out?

The wait is almost over—Andor Season 2 is officially set to premiere with its first three episodes on April 22, 2025, exclusively on Disney+. New episodes will drop weekly, but they won't exactly be using the typical Star Wars schedule.

Episode Release Schedule: A Different Approach?

Unlike the traditional weekly release format used by many Star Wars series, Andor's second season is confirmed to follow a three-episode-per-week release model. This means that the 12-episode season will be released in four drops over four weeks:

  • April 22, 2025 – Episodes 1–3

  • April 29, 2025 – Episodes 4–6

  • May 6, 2025 – Episodes 7–9

  • May 13, 2025 – Episodes 10–12

This rapid release schedule has sparked debate among fans, and I'll be honest...I'm still not sure what I think.

There's definitely room to appreciate the binge-like approach, allowing for quicker story progression, but some folks worry that it could shorten the overall excitement of the season. Show creator Tony Gilroy did confirm that this was a Disney decision, but he also pointed out that this was essentially how they shot the series...so it could be even more faithful to the overall journey.

Release calendar showing Andor Season 2’s weekly episode drops from April 22 to May 13, 2025, with grouped episode arcs.

Is There a Trailer for Andor Season 2?

Where Is the Trailer?

One of the biggest questions fans were asking for months was: Why hasn’t Lucasfilm released a trailer yet? The absence of promotional footage fueled speculation and frustration, but fortunately, the cries were heard and the first trailer for the second season of the television series was put out with plenty of fanfare!

Within the trailer, we got to see the return of almost the entire cast and a scope that threatens to dwarf the already impressive size of Season 1.

Where to Watch Andor Season 2

Just like its first season, Andor Season 2 will be available exclusively on Disney+. The streaming platform remains the home for all new Star Wars television content, including The Mandalorian, Ahsoka, and The Bad Batch.

Will Andor Season 2 Screen in Theaters?

While there’s no official announcement about theatrical screenings, there’s growing interest in bringing Andor’s cinematic storytelling to the big screen. Some Disney+ series, like The Mandalorian and Ahsoka, have had limited IMAX screenings for key episodes, so it’s possible that the final three episodes of Andor Season 2—which lead directly into Rogue One—could receive a similar treatment.

If a theatrical release is announced, it would likely be for special event screenings in select cities, offering fans a chance to experience the grand finale in an immersive way.

Episode Count & Runtime

How Many Episodes Are in Andor Season 2?

Lucasfilm has confirmed that Andor Season 2 will consist of 12 episodes, just like its first season. This makes it one of the longest Star Wars live-action series on Disney+, with a more expansive story arc compared to shorter series like Obi-Wan Kenobi (6 episodes) or Ahsoka (8 episodes).

What’s the Runtime for Each Episode?

While official runtimes haven’t been released, Season 1 set a clear precedent:

  • Most episodes ranged between 40–60 minutes, with some longer episodes for major story moments.

  • The finale could extend beyond 60 minutes, especially if it directly sets up Rogue One.

Given the high-stakes narrative and time jumps in Season 2, we can expect similar, if not slightly longer runtimes, particularly for the final three episodes.

With Andor Season 2 shaping up to be one of the most ambitious and anticipated Star Wars stories yet, we can all start counting down to April 22, 2025, when Cassian’s journey comes to its epic conclusion.

The Road to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

One of the most exciting aspects of Andor Season 2 is how it will seamlessly connect to Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, bringing Cassian Andor’s journey full circle and becoming a crucial star wars story itself. Unlike Season 1, which explored Cassian’s transformation from a self-serving survivor to a committed rebel, Season 2 will accelerate his path toward becoming the seasoned intelligence officer hellbent on revolution that we meet in Rogue One.

With a four-year time jump structured into distinct narrative arcs, the final season of Andor promises to show the growing tensions within the Rebellion, the Empire’s tightening grip, and the personal sacrifices that will define Cassian’s legacy.

Lucasfilm

The Four-Year Structure: How the Time Jump Works

Unlike Season 1, which took place entirely in 5 BBY, Andor Season 2 will cover four years, from 4 BBY to the immediate events of Rogue One. The season is divided into four three-episode arcs, each focusing on key moments from a different year.

After each arc, there will be a one year time jump, allowing each story to feel appropriately intimate while the entire series exists on a more galactic scale.

This structure will allow the show to highlight major milestones in the Rebel Alliance’s formation, depicting Cassian’s increasing involvement in high-stakes missions, Mon Mothma’s political maneuvering, and the Empire’s intensifying crackdown.

The Final Arc Leads Directly Into Rogue One

The last three episodes of Andor will take place in 0 BBY, aligning directly with the opening of Rogue One, where Cassian is already an established operative for the Rebel Alliance.

By the time the credits roll on the second season, Cassian will likely be a trusted agent under General Draven’s command, primed for his fateful encounter with Galen Erso’s message about the Death Star.

Will Jyn Erso Appear in Andor Season 2?

While Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) is not expected to have a major role in Andor (despite the hope of many fans), it’s possible that Season 2 will plant subtle connections to her story. At this point in the timeline, Jyn is still living under the alias "Liana Hallik" and has not yet been recruited by the Rebellion.

Potential ways Andor Season 2 could reference Jyn:

  • A mention by Saw Gerrera’s Partisans, possibly hinting at Jyn’s past connection to them.

  • A description from Saw Gerrera himself (Forest Whitaker is confirmed to return), who could be dealing with the fallout of events that will lead to Jyn’s capture.

While Jyn’s full story will likely remain untouched until the film, Andor has the perfect opportunity to weave in small hints that set up her eventual involvement.

The Ghorman Massacre & Other Major Events

Explosive chaos as a rebel protester runs from an Imperial assault on Ghorman, with stormtroopers firing into a crowd.

Lucasfilm

To fully capture the increasing tension between the Empire and the Rebellion, Andor Season 2 is will portray one of the most important historical moments from Star Wars lore. This event will not only shape Cassian’s journey but also push the burgeoning Rebellion closer to open war.

The Ghorman Massacre: The Empire’s Brutality Unleashed

One of the most infamous war crimes in Imperial history, the Ghorman Massacre was an event where Governor Tarkin ordered his forces to slaughter peaceful protesters on the planet Ghorman, leading to widespread outrage and pushing many reluctant senators—including Mon Mothma—toward full-scale rebellion.

How it could factor into Andor Season 2:

  • Mon Mothma’s breaking point – This could be the moment that forces her to go public with her defiance against the Empire, a major step toward forming the Rebel Alliance as seen in Star Wars Rebels.

  • A rallying cry for the Rebellion – News of the massacre could trigger Cassian and Luthen Rael to take even more extreme actions.

  • Tarkin’s rise to power – This could also serve as a way to introduce Tarkin’s growing influence in the Empire, setting up his role in Rogue One.

The Effects of the Aldhani Heist on the Rebellion

S. Farnes (Stoneward 13)

Although the Aldhani heist in Season 1 was a major victory for the Rebels, it also led to an immediate Imperial crackdown. As Season 2 progresses, we’ll likely see how this event continues to shape Cassian’s story:

  • Increased surveillance and oppression – The Empire’s response to Aldhani could create a world where trust is fragile, and rebellion is riskier than ever.

  • Luthen Rael’s growing desperation – With more Rebels being hunted, Luthen may be forced to make darker, morally questionable decisions.

  • Cassian’s reputation within the Rebellion – How does the Rebel leadership view him after his indirect role in Aldhani?

Mon Mothma’s Growing Role in Organizing the Alliance

By the time Andor Season 1 ended, Mon Mothma was on the verge of fully committing to rebellion, but she was still walking a fine line between her public role as a senator and her secret anti-Imperial activities.

Mon Mothma stands alone in a lavish white chamber on Coruscant, symbolizing her isolation in political sacrifice.

Lucasfilm

In Season 2, expect to see:

  • Mon Mothma going underground – She may officially sever ties with the Imperial Senate, setting up her leadership in Rogue One.

  • Alliances with Bail Organa and other key figures – Could we see a cameo from Bail Organa as the Rebel network solidifies? (I sincerely hope so)

  • The financial and political struggles of rebellion – Funding and sustaining an insurgency isn’t easy, and Mon Mothma will likely face major sacrifices along the way including the arranged marriage of her only daughter.

The road to Rogue One is paved with sacrifice, and Andor is about to show us just how costly that road truly is.

5 Reasons We Can’t Wait for Andor Season 2

Now we know that there are plenty of obvious reasons that Star Wars fans are particularly excited about the upcoming season. The first season delivered a gripping, politically charged thriller set in the Star Wars universe, and its second and final season promises to raise the stakes even further.

There are so many character dynamics to explore and major plot developments to enjoy, but for now, here are five of the biggest reasons we can’t wait to return to the world of Andor.

Dedra Meero & Syril Karn’s Relationship

Syril Karn and Dedra Meero stare each other down, highlighting their complex and possibly dangerous Imperial alliance.

Lucasfilm

One of the most intriguing dynamics introduced in Season 1 was the relationship between Imperial officer Dedra Meero (Denise Gough) and former security enforcer Syril Karn (Kyle Soller). Both characters were obsessed with maintaining control and order, though from different angles—Dedra as a ruthless ISB officer and Syril as a disgraced yet ambitious enforcer looking for purpose.

Their tense interactions, particularly in the final arc, left many fans speculating about where their relationship might go in the second season. Will Dedra see Syril as an asset or a liability? Could their shared ambition lead to an uneasy alliance, or will their power struggle turn them against each other?

With the Empire growing more authoritarian, the lines between loyalty and self-interest will blur, making this one of the most unpredictable storylines to watch.

Mon Mothma’s Growing Role in the Rebel Alliance

Genevieve O'Reilly's performance of the Rebellion leader was one of the most incredible parts of the inaugural season as Tony Gilroy gave us a rare, in-depth look at Mon Mothma’s struggle to secretly fund and support the growing Rebellion while maintaining her public image as a senator. By the end of the first twelve stories, she had made heartbreaking personal sacrifices, including arranging a political marriage for her daughter, to maintain the illusion of loyalty to the Empire.

In Season 2, we expect to see Mon Mothma’s final steps toward fully embracing her role as the leader of the Rebel Alliance. With the timeline inching closer to Rogue One, she may need to go into hiding, severing her ties with the Imperial Senate.

Cassian’s Continued Search for His Sister Kerri

Meme-style image of Cassian Andor obsessively searching for clues about his missing sister, Kerri Andor.

Youtini Illustration

One of the biggest unresolved mysteries from Season 1 is Cassian’s missing sister, Kerri. The season opened with Cassian searching for her, only for Maarva to later insist that she was gone and that he should stop looking. But with Andor’s commitment to layered storytelling, it’s unlikely that this subplot was introduced without purpose.

Could Kerri still be alive, possibly even entangled with the Empire or the growing Rebellion? If so, her fate could have major consequences for Cassian’s character development. Throughout Season 1, Cassian operated as a man struggling to find his place. If he finds his sister—or the truth about what happened to her—how will that affect his choices leading up to Rogue One?

Some fan theories suggest that Kerri may be working for the Empire, unknowingly or willingly. If true, this revelation could create an emotional conflict that forces Cassian to choose between family and the cause he eventually gives his life for.

The Effects of the Aldhani Heist

The Aldhani heist in Season 1 was a game-changer, both for the story and for the Star Wars timeline. It also happened to provide us with one of the most visually impressive scenes in the history of Star Wars.

However, the successful Rebel raid on an Imperial payroll vault triggered a massive crackdown across the galaxy, with the Empire tightening its grip and significantly increasing its surveillance efforts. In Season 2, we’ll likely see how this single act of defiance continues to ripple outward, fueling the rebellion while making life even more dangerous for its members.

  • The Empire’s Retaliation – After the heist, Palpatine gave the ISB more power than ever. Season 2 will likely explore the growing police state, showing just how difficult it will be for rebels to operate.

  • Saw Gerrera’s Role – The first season hinted at tensions between different Rebel factions, and Saw Gerrera’s extremist methods could become a major point of contention. With Rogue One on the horizon, we may see the divide between Gerrera’s Partisans and Mon Mothma’s more strategic approach.

Split image of Saw Gerrera and Mon Mothma with their respective Rebel factions, showcasing the ideological divide.

Lucasfilm/Youtini Illustration

  • Cassian’s Reputation – Cassian played a key role in Aldhani’s success, even if he was just looking for a payday at the time. How will that reputation follow him in Season 2?

With the Empire bearing down harder than ever, Andor Season 2 is set to showcase the true cost of rebellion.

The Continuation of an Underrated but Fantastic Star Wars Show

Despite Andor being one of the most critically praised Star Wars projects in recent years, it remains somewhat underappreciated compared to mainstream hits like The Mandalorian. However, its mature storytelling, compelling character arcs, and high production value have cemented it as a standout entry in the Star Wars universe.

Even though I would personally want about 18 more years with this particular series, there is an exhilarating sense of finality as we come to the end. There will be no more Andor content after this second and final season, so there's no reason for Tony Gilroy to hold anything back.

With this final installment, there’s no doubt it will solidify Andor’s legacy as one of the boldest and most well-crafted Star Wars stories ever told.

Andor Season 2 Cast & Characters: Who’s Returning?

Now that we know a bit about what to expect from the upcoming series, let's double check who we're going to see returning. There are some obvious main characters that we know are guaranteed to have some screen time, and there are those that met their tragic end that we will unfortunately have to miss like Cassian's adoptive mother, Maarva Andor...one of my personal favorites that I'll still be yearning to see every Tuesday.

Let's take a look at the key players.

Visual grid of the confirmed Andor Season 2 cast including Diego Luna, Genevieve O’Reilly, Alan Tudyk, and more.

Youtini Illustration

Cassian Andor (Diego Luna)

Alright let's get it out of the way. Yes, star and executive producer, Diego Luna is returning to the television series that bears his namesake. We know - quite a stretch.

Cassian Andor’s journey in Season 2 will be one of transformation, sacrifice, and leadership. When we first met him, he was a reluctant outsider, primarily looking out for himself. By the end, he had begun to embrace the larger fight against the Empire.

Now, Cassian will continue down the path that ultimately leads him to the Rebel Alliance’s intelligence division, where he will become the battle-hardened spy seen in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The four-year time jump structure of Season 2 suggests that we’ll see him take on increasingly dangerous missions, develop a stronger sense of purpose, and learn to make the tough decisions that define a true Rebel leader.

With each passing year, Cassian will gain more experience in covert operations, sabotage, and gathering intelligence against the Empire, all of which will be crucial in setting up the eventual film. But at what cost?

Cassian himself tells Jyn Erso that he has done terrible things in the name of the Rebellion—Season 2 may show us exactly what those are.

Supporting Cast: Allies & Enemies

While Andor is centered on Cassian’s story, the television series really took flight thanks to the strength of its supporting cast which adds depth to the narrative, representing different perspectives on the rebellion and the Empire’s tightening grip.

Mon Mothma (Genevieve O’Reilly)

Season 1 showcased Mon Mothma’s political tightrope walk as she secretly funneled money to the Rebellion while maintaining her cover as a loyal Imperial senator. By Season 2, she is expected to take even bigger risks, publicly denouncing the Empire and cementing herself as the face of the Rebel Alliance.

With the Ghorman Massacre looming—an event that will push her into open defiance—we may see the moment she abandons Coruscant and fully commits to leading the Rebellion.

Luthen Rael (Stellan Skarsgård)

Luthen Rael was one of Andor’s most compelling characters, a figure willing to sacrifice morality for the greater good. His fiery monologue about giving up everything for the Rebellion hinted at a man with nothing left to lose and provided one of the greatest acting performances we've ever seen in the Star Wars franchise.

Season 2 will likely test Luthen’s extreme tactics as he balances the needs of the growing Rebellion with his double life on Coruscant. With Cassian now aligned with him, we may see how far Luthen is willing to go—and whether his radical strategies put the entire movement at risk.

Bix Caleen (Adria Arjona)

Bix suffered one of the most brutal storylines in Season 1, enduring torture at the hands of the Empire for information on Cassian. Season 2 will explore that aftermath and see if she can mentally and physically recover as she returns to the fight.

Given her explosive antics in the initial trailer, we can assume that she'll seek revenge on the Empire, but will she be able to outpace the trauma in her wake as she attempts to punish the destroyers of Ferrix?

Saw Gerrera (Forest Whitaker)

Saw Gerrera, one of the most divisive figures in the Rebellion, will return for Season 2. His militant approach to fighting the Empire often clashes with Mon Mothma’s more strategic vision, a divide that will become more apparent as the Rebellion grows.

We'll likely see more conflict between the Rebel factions, foreshadowing the split that will eventually isolate Saw and his Partisans by the time of Rogue One.

For a bit of extra Saw, be sure to check out Alexander Freed's novel The Mask of Fear which goes into the differences between his and Mon Mothma's styles of rebellion.

Dedra Meero (Denise Gough) & Syril Karn (Kyle Soller)

Dedra Meero was one of the breakout characters of Season 1—a ruthless ISB officer determined to root out rebellion at any cost. By the end of the season, she had barely survived the chaos on Ferrix, with Syril Karn saving her life in a moment charged with both desperation and admiration.

The power dynamics between these two will be fascinating to watch in Season 2:

  • Will Dedra see Syril as a useful ally, or is he a liability?

  • Will their uneasy relationship evolve into a more formal Imperial collaboration?

  • Could one of them turn on the other if things go south?

With the ISB gaining even more authority in Season 2, expect Dedra to become even more ruthless in her mission to wipe out the Rebellion.

Will K-2SO and Orson Krennic Appear in Andor Season 2?

Two of the most anticipated additions of Andor Season 2 are the returns of key Rogue One characters:

K-2SO (Alan Tudyk)

Fans have been eager to see the introduction of K-2SO, the reprogrammed Imperial security droid who becomes Cassian’s right-hand companion in Rogue One, since the announcement of the television series.

Comic panel of Cassian Andor and K-2SO’s first chaotic encounter, teasing the droid’s Season 2 debut.

Marvel Comics

Alan Tudyk revealed that K-2SO won’t appear right away, but with Season 2 leading directly into Rogue One, we're excited to see how Cassian first acquires and reprograms the droid at the beginning of their journey together.

Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn)

Orson Krennic stands sternly in front of the Death Star, highlighting his role in the Empire’s superweapon project.

Lucasfilm/Youtini Illustration

With Season 2 bringing the timeline closer to Rogue One, Director Orson Krennic’s role in the Empire is growing more significant. As head of the Death Star project, Krennic is already maneuvering for power within the Empire, often clashing with Grand Moff Tarkin.

His role in Andor Season 2 should go hand in hand with the further development of the ISB and Imperial intelligence as he works alongside Dedra and other key imperial figures in the hunt for rebels as the Death Star’s construction continues ramping up behind the scenes.

Behind the Scenes: Production, Set Photos & Delays

Before-and-after comparison of shipyards from Star Wars showing the transformation of set design in Andor.

Lucasfilm

Bringing Andor Season 2 to life has been a massive undertaking, with the series’ high production value, large ensemble cast, and intricate set designs making it one of the most ambitious Star Wars projects on Disney+. The season was already in pre-production as early as May 2022 before entering full production. However, the road to its 2025 release has not been smooth, with industry-wide setbacks causing significant delays.

Let’s take a look at why the season was pushed back and who’s behind the camera for this highly anticipated final chapter.

Why Is Andor Season 2 Taking So Long?

Originally expected to debut in 2024, Andor Season 2’s release was delayed to April 22, 2025, primarily due to industry strikes and production setbacks.

Key Reasons for the Delay:

  1. Hollywood Strikes – In 2023, the Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) strikes shut down nearly all scripted productions, including Andor. Filming was partially completed before the strikes, but with key cast and crew unable to work, production stalled for months.

  2. Extensive Post-Production WorkAndor is one of the most cinematic Star Wars series, relying heavily on on-location shoots, large practical sets, and intricate visual effects. Even without the strikes, the post-production process for a show of this scale would have taken considerable time.

  3. Lucasfilm’s Release Schedule Adjustments – With multiple Star Wars projects in development, Disney and Lucasfilm may have strategically chosen April 2025 to allow for better pacing between franchise releases and avoid overlap with other major Disney+ series.

While the delay has been frustrating for fans, it ensures that Andor Season 2 maintains the same high-quality storytelling and production values that made Season 1 a critical success.

Who Directed Andor Season 2?

Visual lineup of Andor Season 2 directors and writers, including Tony Gilroy, Ariel Kleiman, Janus Metz, Alonso Ruizpalacios, Beau Willimon, and Dan Gilroy.

Youtini Illustration

Showrunner Tony Gilroy remains the driving force behind Andor Season 2, ensuring the show stays true to his original vision. While Gilroy isn’t directing individual episodes, his hands-on approach to storytelling, editing, and structuring the season guarantees a cohesive narrative.

Confirmed Directors for Season 2:

Several talented directors have been brought on to shape the four-year time-jump structure of Season 2. The confirmed directors include:

  • Ariel Kleiman (Yellowjackets, Top of the Lake)

  • Janus Metz (All the Old Knives, ZeroZeroZero)

  • Alonso Ruizpalacios (Narcos: Mexico, A Cop Movie)

Writing Team & Creative Leads:

  • Tony Gilroy – Showrunner, executive producer, and key writer for Andor.

  • Beau Willimon – Returning writer from Season 1, known for his work on House of Cards.

  • Dan Gilroy – Co-writer and Tony Gilroy’s brother, bringing his signature sharp dialogue and political intrigue to the series.

With this exceptional team of directors and writers, Andor Season 2 is set to be one of the most meticulously crafted Star Wars projects to date.

The wait may have been long, but every indication suggests that the final season of Andor will be worth it—delivering a powerful, character-driven story that leads directly into Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
