Publisher summary:
A RETURN TO TATOOINE! KYLO REN seeks out the home planet of his grandfather, ANAKIN SKYWALKER! The young tyrant must go up against GARDULLA THE HUTT and her guards… and a RANCOR! What secrets of the past blow in the harsh sands of MOS ESPA?
Why it matters: Kylo Ren is adrift after the events of The Last Jedi. With the aid of Vaneé, he heads to Tatooine and sees how Darth Vader came to be.
Key moments:
Ani Did It: Kylo returns to the site of one of Anakin’s first triumphs: his race win in the Boonta Eve Classic.
Ben’s Upbringing: Despite what he may want, Kylo’s background is starkly different than Anakin’s. We get glimpses of the love a young Ben experienced from his family.
An epic showdown: No Star Wars comic is complete without a fight, and here Kylo settles old business with Gardulla the Hutt.

Marvel Comics
The big picture: With the first issue laying the ground floor for the series, issue two really kicks off the action. Vaneé begins to spin the tale of Vader’s past. Kylo is a man torn. He wants to kill the past, but at the same time wants to live up to the Legacy of Vader. In trying to fit into the mold, we see that he comes from quite different beginnings, even if they have somewhat similar motivations.
In one of the funnier moments, contrary to what the internet was led to believe, Vader was not the end of Watto. At the end of the issue, Kylo is met by a true threat. It was interesting to see how he would be physically challenged in this series. There aren’t likely to be too many physical threats to him at this time in the galaxy, even though we’re sure the emotional ones will be heavy.
Overall, the second issue remains as strong as the first. The series is living up to all expectations. And, it cannot be missed that Luke Ross is delivering incredible looking panels.
Our rating: Incredible
What’s next: The next issue picks back up on April 16th, 2025, as Kylo Ren faces off against Gardulla the Hutt.
