ast Friday marked another long awaited episode of The High Republic Show, hosted by the wonderful Krystina Arielle. The last episode in January marked the one-year anniversary of the initiative, and gave us some of the first details on Phase 2, which will begin in October. We found out that George Mann, Tessa Gratton, Zoraida Córdova, and Lydia Kang would be joining the writers’ room. In addition, it was revealed that Phase 2 would be going back to the past–taking place 150 years before the events of Light of the Jedi.
This month’s episode brought a whole new set of announcements as Phase 1 comes to a close. The show started with a conversation with Lucasfilm Senior VP James Waugh. He confirmed there are a number of High Republic projects in the works, including a live action television show and a video game.
However, it was the panel with Michael Siglain, Kristin Baver, and Daniel José Older that brought some of the more substantial reveals. First, it was revealed Kristin Baver, author of The Skywalkers: A Family at War, will be writing the Art of the High Republic. This book will bring together art from Phil Noto, Grant Griffin, and Iain McCaig from the initial planning stages of the initiative, all the way through Phase 1. It is currently set for release on September 27th.
It doesn’t stop there though. Last month mentioned that Justina Ireland and newcomer Tessa Gratton would co-author the first YA novel of Phase 2. The title was revealed to be Path of Deceit, which will be published by Disney-Lucasfilm Press. It is currently set for release on November 1st.
We also got the reveal of the next middle grade novel in the initiative. This will be Quest for the Hidden City by author of Myths & Fables George Mann. This will also be from Disney-Lucasfilm and release on October 4th.
Rounding out the literary trio for the beginning of Phase 2, Zoraida Córdova, author of A Crash of Fate, will be writing the adult novel Convergence from Del Rey.
The final reveal was a bit unexpected. Last month, it was said that Daniel José Older would be writing an all-ages graphic novel for Dark Horse. However, this isn’t the only Dark Horse project on the horizon. Claudia Gray will be writing a new comic entitled Quest of the Jedi, which shares a title with the Phase as a whole.
