t’s been one year since the first book in The High Republic launched an unforeseen era of Star Wars storytelling. As Kathleen Kennedy put it in today’s anniversary special, the great success of what has already been published shows even greater promise for what’s coming next.
As part of the first anniversary celebration of The High Republic, several important announcements concluded an otherwise mostly retrospective look back from the era’s five starting authors on where we’ve been … plus a little on where we might go next. (It’s not what you’re expecting.)
The next few books releasing in early 2022 will officially conclude the final wave of Phase 1 (each phase has three waves). Phase 2 will include a new graphic novel from Daniel José Older, a new Cavan Scott comic, and to no one’s surprise, Claudia Gray still can’t tell us what she’s working on.
The next phase in The High Republic will take place 150 years in the past, taking readers back in time for a deeper look into the Jedi of this supposed golden age.
Additionally, several new authors will be joining the original five writers responsible for building the foundations of The High Republic: Zoraida Cordova, Tessa Gratton, George Mann, and Lydia Kang, several of whom have written in the Star Wars universe previously.
With such a major backward time jump, it’s time to bring in a cast of new characters and some different voices to bring them to life.
Quest of the Jedi, the second phase in The High Republic publishing initiative, officially launches October 2022.
