Publisher summary:
On a remote Outer Rim planet, Poe Dameron and BB-8 discover a First Order base where the enemy keeps their fabled codebreaker, used to crack secret Resistance messages. Can the two heroes infiltrate—and then escape—the high-security compound guarded by merciless stormtroopers? And what mysterious technology will they find inside?

Dark Horse Comics
Why it matters:
With a focus on adventure and hijinks, Codebreaker is one of the first comics building out the world of the Sequel Era. Poe leaps right off the screen and into this story in a way that will please all fans of the character.
Key moments:
Stealth gone wrong - Poe’s undercover mission is a thrilling setting, but spoiler alert - things don’t *quite* go as planned.
Laugh a minute - Keeping in tone with the Sequel Trilogy’s lighter moments, Ethan Sacks shows off the funny side of Poe Dameron, and the gags land consistently. It’s an all-ages comic, so why not be a bit silly? I mean… it’s got BB-8 wearing a hat!
Alien supercomputer - The titular codebreaker is revealed to be an alien child named Cheka, who provides a great balance to Poe’s typical cocky shenanigans.

Dark Horse Comics
The big picture:
Sometimes it’s good to remember why these are called comic books. Even in the year of Andor, Star Wars has plenty of room to be silly, and Ethan Sacks nails the comedy here. Hyperspace Stories - Codebreaker isn’t going to reveal any big new details of the Sequel Era (see Legacy of Vader if that’s what you’re looking for), but it’s still a fun and rewarding read.
Our rating: Good
What’s next: The misadventures of Poe continue … Hyperspace Stories - Codebreaker #3 is due in comic book stores on August 27th.
