When Does Dawn of the Jedi Take Place in the Star Wars Timeline?
The exact timeline placement of the film has not been revealed, but the story will take place 25,000 years before The Skywalker Saga as part of the Dawn of the Jedi era.
What We Know So Far
The film will chronicle the early Jedi Order and their discovery of the Force
Previously, Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff & D.B. Weiss were attached to create a trilogy of movies set within this time period. They walked away from the project in 2019.
David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight) also wrote a script for a movie set in this time period, but that project was similarly shelved.
Mangold was originally set to direct a Boba Fett movie that was eventually turned into The Book of Boba Fett, and he was brought back for Dawn of the Jedi after his work on Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny
Mangold will be co-writing the film with Beau Willimon who wrote the Narkina 5 arc of Andor including "No Way Out"
