One of the most significant revelations in the film came in the form of Poe Dameron’s past as a spice runner coming to light through a comment from Zorii Bliss. Fans of the Poe Dameron comic and the Star Wars: Resistance series know that Poe spent much of his pre-Resistance career as a pilot for the New Republic, so when in the world did this chapter of his life take place?

Well, my friends. On August 4th, 2020, we’re going to find out.

Star Wars: Poe Dameron: Free Fall by Alex Segura was just announced by our friends over at polygon.com, and within the announcement they revealed a number of facts about the book straight from the author’s mouth.

While specific details are naturally sparse at the moment, we know that the book will be a “galactic crime novel” that follows a teenage Poe Dameron in the tumultuous time following his mother’s death. The pain of the tragic event appears to create a rift between Poe and his father, so Poe uses that sorrow as an impetus to run away to a life of adventure and eventual spice running.

"Free Fall doesn’t just connect the dots, though — it adds texture and weight to these unexplored parts of Poe’s backstory while also letting rip with an action-packed, thrilling adventure that’s firmly entrenched in the Star Wars mythos."

The book promises to involve now immediate fan favorite characters Zorii Bliss and Babu Frick amongst others, and throughout the interview, Segura reveals his massive excitement about the project and the character.
