oday, we learned the release date for the long-awaited Ahsoka TV series. Get ready, because the first episode will premiere on August 23. The announcement included a 30-second TV spot that will air on TV tonight during the NBA Finals Game 3. You can also see the spot below.

Dave Filoni helms Ahsoka as executive producer and sole writer of the series’ eight episodes. The show stars Rosario Dawson as the titular character, Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla. Facing them will be Grand Admiral Thrawn, played by Lars Mikkelsen; Baylan Skoll, played by the late Ray Stevenson; Shin Hati, played by Ivanna Sakhno; and Morgan Elsbeth, played by Diana Lee Inosanto.

While 30 seconds isn’t much time, the clip includes shots of Sabine wielding a green lightsaber against Ivanna Sakhno’s character, Shin Hati. It appears to be an augmented version of Ezra Bridger’s lightsaber from Star Wars: Rebels. The magazine Empire has also revealed new info and photos from the show, including a brand new look at one of the show’s Inquisitors. The issue hits store shelves and digital libraries tomorrow, June 8.

August also marks the 15th anniversary of the Star Wars: The Clone Wars animated movie, which premiered in 2008. The movie featured the first appearance of Ahsoka Tano, voiced by Ashley Eckstein. It also marked the first Star Wars directorial work for Dave Filoni. Following that, Dave Filoni helped to continue Ahsoka’s story with Star Wars: The Clone Wars TV show, Star Wars Rebels, and The Mandalorian.

With the appearance of characters like Sabine, Hera, and Grand Admiral Thrawn, the Ahsoka series looks to be drawing heavily from Star Wars Rebels. We’re as excited as everyone else to see Ahsoka in her own series, and we’re gearing up to jump on the hype train with several pieces of content featuring her over the next couple of months. So be sure to follow us to stay up to date and enjoy a positive community and outlook on the galaxy far, far away.

Born and raised in Hawaii, Jay Goodearl earned his Bachelor of Arts in English with a Minor in History at the University of Hawaii at Mānoa. Some of his earliest memories are of his father reading the on-screen opening crawl to Star Wars: The Phantom Menace and of playing Star Wars: Rogue Squadron on the Nintendo 64 when he was just two years old. These passions - Star Wars and video games - and his non-denominational Christian beliefs are what inform him the most to this day. When he is not creating content for Youtini, he can be found climbing at his local bouldering gym, playing video games, writing his own novel, or deep in meditation.
