"I have my stories. Stories to chill the bone and stir the soul. Stories of nightmares past and terrors yet to come." - Vaneé
very person in the universe, from the lowliest scrumrat to the mightiest Jedi Master, has fears. Though the specific fears differ, most come back to one central idea: the unknown. Whether we question what lurks unseen in the dark or what poorly understood forces grant some their unnatural abilities or just what keeps making the eery screeching sound in the night, it all comes back to the unknown. As Star Wars is set a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away, it's no shock that it is absolutely teeming with the unknown. From viruses that raise the dead to crazed, spider-legged Sith Lords roaming for prey, there is no shortage of terrifying stories.
In our own galaxy, whether looking to celebrate Halloween or just to enjoy the macabre, there's no reason we can't celebrate with Star Wars. This collection puts together some of the scariest, strangest, most chilling stories that the Star Wars Expanded Universe has to offer!
Just remember, if you do hear that eery screeching sound in the night while reading these stories, it's...probably nothing.

Death Troopers
In Death Troopers, readers follow the story of two young brothers dealing with the daily horrors of being captive aboard a prison barge. However, even worse horrors await them once everyone on the ship begins to inexplicably fall sick and die…and then come back to life. The brothers must band together with whoever they can find if they want to escape from the prison and its new flesh-eating passengers.
Joe Schreiber managed to tell a Star Wars story unlike any other with Death Troopers. He delivers the perfect mix of horror and science fiction for any Star Wars fan who’s really in the Halloween spirit. Readers beware: this one has plenty of blood and guts.
When the Imperial prison barge Purge—temporary home to five hundred of the galaxy's most ruthless killers, rebels, scoundrels and thieves—breaks down in a distant, uninhabited part of space, its only hope seems to lie with a Star Destroyer found drifting, derelict, and seemingly abandoned. But when a boarding party is sent to scavenge for parts, only half of them come back—bringing with them a horrific disease so lethal that within hours, nearly all aboard the Purge will die in ways too hideous to imagine.
And death is only the beginning.
The Purge's half-dozen survivors—two teenage brothers, a sadistic captain of the guards, a couple of rogue smugglers and the chief medical officer, the lone woman on board—will do whatever it takes to stay alive. But nothing can prepare them for what lies waiting onboard the Star Destroyer amid its vast creaking emptiness that isn't really empty at all.wrong The dead are rising, soulless, unstoppable, and unspeakably hungry.
Red Harvest
All Sith are enamored with the idea of immortality, and Darth Scabrous is no different. However, when he attempts to use the powers of the Murakami orchid for his own dastardly purposes, he unknowingly unleashes a virus powerful enough to raise the dead from their eternal slumber. Trapped with the growing horde of undead Sith students in the Odacer-Faustin Sith Academy, kidnapped Padawan Hestizo Trace and the Whiphid bounty hunter Tukh must find a way to stop Darth Scabrous, eliminate the virus, and somehow manage to escape with their own lives.
The era of the Old Republic is a dark and dangerous time, as Jedi Knights valiantly battle the Sith Lords and their ruthless armies. But the Sith have disturbing plans—and none more so than the fulfillment of Darth Scabrous’s fanatical dream, which is about to become nightmarish reality.
Unlike those other Jedi sidelined to the Agricultural Corps—young Jedi whose abilities have not proved up to snuff—Hestizo Trace possesses one extraordinary Force talent: a gift with plants. Suddenly her quiet existence among greenhouse and garden specimens is violently destroyed by the arrival of an emissary from Darth Scabrous. For the rare black orchid that she has nurtured and bonded with is the final ingredient in an ancient Sith formula that promises to grant Darth Scabrous his greatest desire.
But at the heart of the formula is a never-before-seen virus that’s worse than fatal—it doesn’t just kill, it transforms. Now the rotting, ravenous dead are rising, driven by a bloodthirsty hunger for all things living—and commanded by a Sith Master with an insatiable lust for power and the ultimate prize: immortality . . . no matter the cost.
Star Wars Adventures: Return to Vader's Castle #1: Beware the Horned Devil!
Keeper of Vader's castle, Vaneé, has captured some of the rebel trespassers in his master's fortress, but rather than deal with them swiftly, he prefers to instill fear into their very hearts with some of the most frightening tales in his recollection. The first, entitled the Horned Devil, follows a band of new recruits aboard Captain Spikewheel's ship, the Salvage-1, as they are tasked with proving their worth by traveling to the planet Lotho Minor and surviving a night in its haunted underground labyrinth. However, they are not the only inhabitants of the labyrinth, and soon enough a devilish being appears who promises to make their one-night stay all the more difficult to complete, let alone survive...
The Screaming Citadel
In this crossover event between the Star Wars mainline comic and the Doctor Aphra series, Luke Skywalker teams up with Doctor Aphra on a mission to the Citadel of Ktath'atn (also known as the Screaming Citadel) to visit the Queen and unlock the secrets of the Eternal Rur, an ancient Force user trapped in a strange green crystal. A rebel pilot and a rogue archaeologist delve into the darkest shadows of the galaxy side by side, as Luke Skywalker reluctantly teams up with Doctor Aphra! The not-so-good Doctor will make Luke an offer he can't afford to pass up...one that leads him to a very rare gathering at the heart of the infamous Screaming Citadel! Galaxy of Fear #1: Eaten Alive
Star Wars Adventures: Boba Fett And The Ship Of Fear
Yoda: Dark Rendezvous
Yoda, Grand Master of the Jedi Order, carries the weight of the Clone Wars on his shoulders. When his former Padawan and leader of the Separatist movement, Count Dooku, reaches out and asks to meet for a truce, that burden becomes heavier still. Knowing that Dooku is likely laying a trap, Yoda places the needs of the galaxy before his own and ventures forth to the mysterious world of Vjun to face his old apprentice for perhaps the final time.
Author Sean Stewart clearly loves Christopher Lee’s background in monster movies and writes Dooku as a sympathetic villain reminiscent of the golden age of Hammer Films. He both heightens Dooku as a villain and humanizes him as a sympathetic character through his exploration of the novel's central question: is Count Dooku redeemable?
As the Clone Wars rage, Jedi Master Yoda must once again face one of his greatest adversaries: Count Dooku. . . .
The savage Clone Wars have forced the Republic to the edge of collapse. During the height of the battle, one Jedi Knight escapes the carnage to deliver a message to Yoda on Coruscant. It appears that Dooku wants peace and demands a rendezvous. Chances are slim that the treacherous Count is sincere but, with a million lives at stake, Yoda has no choice.
The meeting will take place on Djun, a planet steeped in evil. The challenge could not be more difficult. Can Yoda win back his once promising pupil from the dark side or will Count Dooku unleash his sinister forces against his former mentor? Either way, Yoda is sure of one thing: this battle will be one of the fiercest he’ll ever face.
