Finn
Before he crashed into the desert sands of Jakku and into Star Wars infamy, Finn was FN-2187, a First Order stormtrooper with a less than notable role in the grand scheme of things—sanitation on Starkiller base!Raised as a tool of the First Order, Finn never knew his family and struggled to find purpose in the unforgiving structure of the organization. Under the thumb of Captain Phasma, Finn never quite fit in and couldn’t execute helpless villagers in the opening scene of The Force Awakens. That single act of defiance would change his life forever and set him on afar different trajectory set not by a ruthless commander, but by the the Force itself.
Finn is known for his intense loyalties in his friendships–specifically with Rey, Poe, and Rose. He risks his neck at every turn, fights for what he loves, and will use whatever tool he needs to get the job done—whether it’s a blaster, lightsaber, gun turret the Millennium Falcon, or even a sandskimmer! Across the Sequel Trilogy, we see Finn evolve from a cowardly lion of sorts, constantly looking to escape the grip of the First Order, to a fierce leader that leads the Resistance as a general in the Battle of Exegol.
While the heart of Finn’s story is found in Episodes VII, VIII, and IX, a handful of insightful and entertaining stories have expanded Finn’s story. Much of this material is backstory—fun stories of what kind of trouble Finn got into while working sanitation as a stormtrooper. However, Rebecca Roanhorse's smash hit Resistance Reborn places Finn in the action alongside his companions where he further navigates the shift from being a First Order deserter to a committed Resistance leader.
There’s so much more about Finn left to be told. Who knows where his adventures will lead him next? In a sense, his character is only beginning to solidify at the close of The Rise of Skywalker as he steps up to the plate as a general in the Resistance, filling the shoes of great leaders like Leia Organa and Admiral Ackbar. Regardless of what he does next, one thing’s for sure: he may be scum...but he's Rebel scum.
