“Love what you love and be kind to each other. This is the way.” - Cavan Scott

The ideal Star Wars author is one who keeps the saga close to their heart at all times. They wear their passion on their sleeve, take in lore like the air they breathe, and bring that energy into every page they write.

This is Cavan Scott.

Cavan writes for other well-known franchises like Doctor Who, Skylanders, and Assassin’s Creed, but his first love will always be the beautiful entity known as the Star Wars Expanded Universe. The time, effort, and care that he puts into his work shines through in every format he produces whether it be novels, comics, and even screenplays. You know the show Jedi Temple Challenge? He wrote the intriguing short stories as told by the quirky protocol droid AD-3!

Based on his track record it’s no secret that Cavan holds a special talent in connecting with younger audiences and adults alike and inspire them to conquer any obstacle no matter how difficult it may seem. It takes true skill to craft stories that appeal to everyone, and an even bigger feat to translate that skill across various platforms. Through this adaptability, Cavan’s experiences compliment one another to bring his readers something truly unique and captivating.

Because of his empowering influence on Star Wars fans, Cavan Scott was one of the five authors chosen to lead as a story architect for The High Republic era. From the launch of the three-phase project, he already had a mix of content on the publishing calendar. You’ll find a substantial list of titles below.

Cavan Scott’s influence isn’t limited to his published works. He roams Twitter on the daily, spreading his positivity to passionate fans and fellow authors alike. For this reason, Cavan was granted the honor of “Social Butterfly” for the 2020 Youtinees. Being the online extrovert that he is, Cavan acknowledged his much-deserved award by writing an article about the Youtinees on his website!

(To see the other nominees, read our article on the 2020 Youtinees.)

Before Cavan Scott became a full-time writer, he was a magazine editor for publications such as Future Publishing and BBC Magazines until he launched his very own magazine in 2007 called Countryfile Magazine. His progression in the art of literature is truly one to behold!

If you’re looking to have a great sit-down conversation with a big-time Star Wars author, Cavan Scott is definitely your guy. You’ll be able to meet him in person as he regularly attends gatherings like Star Wars Celebration, New York Comic Con, San Diego Comic Con, London Super Comic Con, and Crimefest.

From A Certain Point of View

Written by
Various Authors
Artwork by

A truly unique and heroic feat in Star Wars publishing, From a Certain Point of View is a compilation of forty short stories by more than forty incredible authors to retell the story of A New Hope in celebration of its fortieth anniversary. Not only did Del Rey assemble a massive team consisting of their catalog of regular Star Wars writers such as Chuck Wendig, John Jackson Miller, and Claudia Gray, they managed to rope in many award-winning authors to pen their first stories in a galaxy far, far away. Such authors include Ken Liu, Sabaa Tahir, Zoraida Córdova, and Rae Carson. All of the book’s authors donated their pay to First Book, a nonprofit dedicated to improving literacy.

The stories represent the points of view of many of the notable side characters from A New Hope, such as Wedge Antilles, Greedo, and Grand Moff Tarkin. But they don’t stop there. The book benefits from forty years of expanding the Star Wars universe, and as such many characters not originally in the original film provide perspective in creative ways–Lando Calrissian, Yoda, Breha Organa, and even Qui-Gon Jinn! It is a compilation not only of characters and authors, but also styles and tones. At times heartbreaking, hilarious, and head-scratching. Some stories will connect differently with different readers. It certainly has something for everyone and is a remarkable read.

Forty years. Forty stories.

In honor of the fortieth anniversary of Star Wars: A New Hope, this collection features Star Wars stories by bestselling authors, trendsetting artists, and treasured voices from Star Wars literary history. More than forty authors have lent their unique vision to forty "scenes," each retelling a different moment from the original Star Wars film, but with a twist: Every scene is told from the point of view of a background character. Whether it's the X-wing pilots who helped Luke destroy the Death Star or the stormtroopers who never quite could find the droids they were looking for, Star Wars: From a Certain Point of View places the classic movie in a whole new perspective, and celebrates the influence and legacy of the unparalleled cultural phenomenon, Star Wars.

Dooku: Jedi Lost (Script)

Written by
Cavan Scott
Artwork by
Audio dramas and similar productions are nothing new in Star Wars. But the game changed entirely in 2019 when Dooku: Jedi Lost set the bar for all future productions -- and set it high. Written by Cavan Scott and performed with a full cast brining each character to life, this original audiobook has already paved the way for more with the release of Doctor Aphra: An Audiobook Original in 2020. While the beautifully bound script is a straight word-for-word screenplay -- no surprises or extras hidden within -- it’s the ideal collectible for anyone in search of more books to display on their shelves.
Darth Tyranus. Count of Serenno. Leader of the Separatists. A red saber, unsheathed in the dark. But who was he before he became the right hand of the Sith? As Dooku courts a new apprentice, the hidden truth of the Sith Lord's past begins to come to light. Dooku's life began as one of privilege—born within the stony walls of his family's estate, orbited by the Funeral Moon where the bones of his ancestors lie interred. But soon, his Jedi abilities are recognized, and he is taken from his home to be trained in the ways of the Force by the legendary Master Yoda. As he hones his power, Dooku rises through the ranks, befriending fellow Jedi Sifo-Dyas and taking a Padawan of his own, the promising Qui-Gon Jinn—and tries to forget the life that he once led. But he finds himself drawn by a strange fascination with the Jedi Master Lene Kostana, and the mission she undertakes for the Order: finding and studying ancient relics of the Sith, in preparation for the eventual return of the deadliest enemies the Jedi have ever faced. Caught between the world of the Jedi, the ancient responsibilities of his lost home, and the alluring power of the relics, Dooku struggles to stay in the light—even as the darkness begins to fall.

Following the dramatic events of Light of the Jedi, the heroes of the High Republic era return to face a shattered peace and a fearsome foe.

In the wake of the Great Disaster and the heroism of the Jedi, the Republic continues to grow, bringing more worlds together under a single unified banner. Led by Chancellor Lina Soh, the spirit of unity extends throughout the galaxy, with the Jedi and newly established Starlight Beacon station at the vanguard.

In celebration, the chancellor plans “The Republic Fair,” a showcase of the possibility and peace of the expanding Republic—a precept the Jedi hope to foster. Stellan Gios, Bell Zettifar, Elzar Mann, and others join the event as ambassadors of harmony. But as the eyes of the galaxy turn toward the Fair, so too does the fury of the Nihil. Their leader, Marchion Ro, is intent on destroying this spirit of unity. His storm descends on the pageantry and celebration, sowing chaos and exacting revenge.

As the Jedi struggle to curb the carnage of the rampaging Nihil, they come face to face with the true fear their enemy plans to unleash across the galaxy. The kind of fear that even the Force cannot shield them from.

Lourna is determined to make underestimating her their last.
