Sigourney Weaver recently sat down with GamesRadar+ to chat about her upcoming role in The Mandalorian and Grogu and how Baby Yoda brought her into a galaxy far, far away.
Key takeaways:
Weaver discussed her love for the breakout star of The Mandalorian saying “I get to have scenes with a little Grogu which is probably why I did the movie”
Baby Yoda will evidently show his own evolution as Weaver stated "He’s a little badass too…he’s grown up a little bit and is capable of much more than maybe we think just watching the series."
Despite her impressive resume of franchise work, Weaver admitted that she didn’t “sit around wishing” for Star Wars, but she was nevertheless delighted when the offer came as she was already “a great fan” of Jon Favreau and The Mandalorian
Weaver also revealed the name of her character, New Republic Colonel Bishop, as well as an idea of the role she’ll play in the story.
"I play a wonderful character who is, you know, in a position of authority. And I have to send the Mandalorian out on a mission on the Outer Rim where all the bad stuff happens."
The big picture: The love for Grogu has been a massive reason for the success of The Mandalorian since its premiere back in 2020, and it appears that love is also helping attract some of Hollywood’s biggest stars to the project.
The Mandalorian and Grogu will release in theaters on May 22nd, 2026 and stars Pedro Pascal as Din Djarin/The Mandalorian as well as the recently announced Jeremy Allen White as Rotta the Hutt.
