Vaneé’s final plan: Vaneé, the creepy attendant in Vader’s Castle, has been a delight through this journey with Kylo Ren. His loyalty to Vader has always been unshakeable, but now he must put that to the test as Kylo uncovers his plans.
The Grandson of the Mask: Kylo awakens from his injuries to find he’s wearing one of Vader’s old masks. Is this the moment he always dreamed it would be?
One versus many: Alone in Vader’s castle, Kylo Ren has to fight through a maze of Dark Troopers and traps to finish his quest in one of the coolest action sequences of the series yet.
The big picture:
Kylo’s driving force has always been his identity. Whether it’s his grandfather Vader, his uncle Luke, or his master Snoke, he has always lived in the shadow of greatness, unsure of who he really was. With Luke and Snoke gone after The Last Jedi, there is only one ghost of the past remaining. Kylo and Vaneé’s journey returns to its beginning in Vader’s Castle. But Kylo must decide what he wants the future to look like.
Soule and Ross deliver yet another fascinating installment digging into the Sequel Trilogy’s main antagonist. While the quick pacing of the issue leaves little room for deep discussions between the two characters, it provides the necessary setup for next month’s finale. It will be sad to see this series go, but all the pieces are in place for Soule to stick the landing as Kylo prepares to confront Vader head on.
