Jedi Knights #2 cover featuring Yoda and Atha Prime

Marvel Comics

Writer: Marc Guggenheim
Artist: Madibek Musabekov
Colors: Luis Guerrero

Publisher summary:
YODA AND VETNA MOONCREST FACE THE TYRANNY OF ATHA PRIME! The JEDI face a new threat on a strange, fantastic and mysterious world... But the planet's surface ruler has a dark secret he wants hidden from the REPUBLIC! The first story featuring a never-released Kenner action figure... ATHA PRIME!

Why it matters: Atha Prime, a failed villain from the 80s, finds his way into canon against all odds.

Key moments:

  • Atha unleashed: Besides being for the sickos, Atha Prime is a formidable foe. Even though he is shrouded in mystery, he is able to stand against Yoda in a duel.

  • A new galactic threat: Atha’s genetically mutated army poses a grave danger to the galaxy at large. The Grand Army of the Republic isn’t the only clone force out there.

  • Qui-Gon’s hunter revealed: Last issue, Qui-Gon was attacked by a masked figure. This time around, the assailant is revealed to be Corlis Rath.

The big picture: We could not believe our ears when Marc Guggenheim announced this series and said Atha Prime would be the villain. Even the most dedicated fans couldn’t be blamed for not knowing him. Originally, he was a failed pitch by Kenner to continue the saga story after Return of the Jedi. However, he never made it and was relegated to obscurity. But here he is, going toe-to-toe with Yoda. There is still so much that remains to be seen, but we are very excited to see how his story plays out. Issue 1 certainly blew us away, and issue 2 hasn’t done anything to cool off the hype.

Our rating: Incredible

What’s next: Get ready for the next issue of Jedi Knights, featuring all splash pages and plenty of kaiju! Issue #3 releases May 14th, 2025.
