his past week has been a one for Star Wars book news. We’ve had several cover reveals, special edition announcements, and even a new audio drama script.
To start off the week, on Monday (11/29) it was revealed that Cavan Scott’s Tempest Runner audio drama would be published as a script book. The story featured a full voice cast to take it beyond the already high production value of the typical Star Wars audiobook. It joins Dooku: Jedi Lost and Doctor Aphra in this format, each of which also received a script book release. Tempest Runner was released back on August 31, 2021 as a part of the High Republic series. The printed release is currently scheduled for March 1, 2021 and will include stage directions, written sound effects, and notes for the production. It is a great way for collectors to get this story represented on their shelf, as well as to make it accessible to those with hearing impairments.
Next up, Timothy Zahn recently completed his Ascendancy Trilogy with Thrawn Ascendancy: Lesser Evil. It was unveiled on Tuesday (11/30) that the final chapter would receive an Out of Print collector’s edition to go with the previous two entries in the series. Like the prior two books, it will feature new art from Magali Villeneuve. The book will showcase the new cover art, a special red foil stamped slipcase with the Ascendancy logo, a signature from Timothy Zahn, printed color endpapers with the Ascendancy logo, gold sprayed edges, and blue accents within the book. It will go on sale on April 26, 2022 for $150 and is limited to 750 copies.
After that came another dump of High Republic news. Claudia Gray’s Fallen Star will also receive an Out of Print run. This will not be nearly as limited as Lesser Evil. It will have wraparound cover art from Jama Jurabaev, who also designed the covers for Light of the Jedi and The Rising Storm, and will be signed by Claudia Gray. The book will also come with a High Republic themed beanie. The book will go on pre-order on December 6th at 10AM ET for $50.
Barnes and Noble will also be getting their own exclusive version of Fallen Star. The B&N Exclusive Edition will feature a double-sided poster with the cover art, as well as an illustration from Phil Noto. It is on pre-order now. Target will also get their own version of Fallen Star with exclusive cover art illustrated by Pascal Blanché and painted by Gonzalo Kenny. This will be unveiled sometime in the near future.
Lastly, Daniel José Older’s Midnight Horizon will get an exclusive edition from Walmart. It features exclusive cover art as well an 8-page insert with an interview from Older as well as character bios. The book is available for pre-order now.
