ith the announcement of Simon Kinberg’s new Star War trilogy, let’s take a look at all of the Star Wars films currently in development.

What do we know:

  • There are currently 10 Star Wars film projects at various stages of production
  • While some of these projects have not received updates in quite a while, they are all still technically on Lucasfilm’s future schedule

The Projects:

  1. Simon Kinberg’s Trilogy: The most recent announcement that will see Kinberg writing a trilogy of films. Sources currently disagree on whether the films will be Episodes 10-12 or a brand new story.
  2. The Mandalorian and Grogu: The next Star Wars film that will follow the pair of characters after the events of The Mandalorian Season 3. Currently holding a release date of May 22, 2026.
  3. The New Jedi Order: Rey’s solo film following The Rise of Skywalker recently lost another writer, but Daisy Ridley is still attached to star with Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel) set to direct. Ridley recently gave a positive update on the film’s status.
  4. Dawn of the Jedi: Directed by James Mangold (Logan, Indiana Jones and The Dial of Destiny), this film will go back to the time of the first Jedi. Beau Willimon (Andor) is co-writing the film, but there are no additional production updates.
  5. Lando: Originally announced as a series, Donald Glover’s Lando was revealed to be a film by Stephen Glover back in 2023. The film is still being written as of the most recent update.
  6. Dave Filoni’s Untitled Film: Dave Filoni’s theatrical directorial debut was announced at Star Wars Celebration Europe and is said to begin pre-production after Filoni finishes work on Ahsoka Season 2.
  7. Taika Waititi’s Untitled Film: The film was announced in 2020 with Waititi both directing and co-writing, but little has been heard about its status in the subsequent years.
  8. Shawn Levy’s Untitled Film: Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine, Stranger Things) is still set to direct his own Star Wars film, and as of August 2024, he confirmed that the film is still in early conceptual stages but is nonetheless moving forward.
  9. Rogue Squadron: A film that received its own teaser trailer back in 2020 with director Patty Jenkins (Wonder Woman), Rogue Squadron was assumed dead in the water after missing its initial release date with no updates, but Jenkins confirmed that she is back working on the script for development as of March 2024.
  10. Rian Johnson’s Star Wars Trilogy: Originally announced back in 2017, Johnson’s trilogy technically remains alive, but his incredible success in the Knives Out franchise has reportedly kept him busy with Netflix.

Stay tuned to Youtini for the latest updates on all the projects coming in the Star Wars galaxy!
