our decades before The Mandalorian, Star Wars fans experienced live-action Star Wars television with Caravan of Courage: An Ewok Adventure!
The backstory:
Originally titled The Ewok Adventure, Caravan of Courage was aired on ABC for the first time on November 25th, 1984
After receiving the second-highest ratings for any ABC movie that year, the film was aired on the Disney Channel before receiving a limited international theatrical release
The success of the film led to a sequel, The Battle for Endor, being filmed and released the following year
Deeper dive:
The movie follows a pair of children on the Forest Moon of Endor after a crash landing as they attempt to find their parents with the help of the local Ewoks
Random House published a number of tie-in children’s books called the ‘Ewok Adventures’ surrounding the film with further stories of Wicket, Kneesa, and more
George Lucas originally had the idea for the movie thanks to his daughter’s love for the Ewoks
Looking ahead:
In 2021, Caravan of Courage was made available for streaming on Disney+ alongside The Battle for Endor and the classic Ewoks cartoons
The Ewoks continue their adventures today in the Ewoks comic book written by Steve Orlando with art by Álvaro López and Laura Braga
