he directors of Skeleton Crew sat down for a roundtable to discuss what went into making the show and the joy of working with the cast!
The setup:
The roundtable consisted of creators Christopher Ford and Jon Watts alongside directors Bryce Dallas Howard, David Lowery, and Jake Schreier
Watts discussed the close personal connections between the directors as he has known Ford, Howard, and Schreier since he was 18 years old
Watts revealed that he initially pitched the show to producer Jon Favreau while they were working on Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Favreau was immediately smitten with the idea - offering to produce alongside Dave Filoni
Closer look:
Watts reinforced the influence of 80s adventure films on the show saying "The thing that made those Amblin movies have that spirit was something that Kathy Kennedy would talk about -- they were grown up films that just happened to star kids."
Regarding the possibility of lower stakes in a show starring children, Watts clarified the intensity of Skeleton Crew is very much in line with the rest of the Star Wars galaxy
"You're still making the stakes really real...you're combining that childlike sense of wonder with a real dangerous world. It's a Star Wars shows that can sit next to all the other things in the Star Wars environment."
David Lowery went on to praise the entire young cast and their joyous attitude towards the entire process, remarking "When you're working with children, it reminds you that this is all make believe, and it's so much fun."
Jude Law also received praise from the entire panel for his work onset alongside the young stars as co-star, mentor, and almost second director. Stories about his amazing conduct fall right in line with his previous interview with StarWars.com
Be sure to check out the full roundtable now and get ready for Skeleton Crew’s premiere on December 3rd!
