The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Ryan Gosling (Barbie, La La Land) is in negotiations to star in the upcoming Star Wars film from the Deadpool & Wolverine director.
What we know:
Shawn Levy (Deadpool & Wolverine, Stranger Things) has been working on a Star Wars project since 2022 alongside writer Jonathan Tropper (This is Where I Leave You, The Adam Project)
The film is said to be a stand-alone movie disconnected from the Skywalker Saga - although the specific time period is unknown
Details on the movie has been sparse outside of Levy and Tropper’s involvement
What’s new:
Gosling is evidently a “late in the game addition” to the project, and the guarantee of his involvement would push this film up the Lucasfilm production ladder
Levy was originally set to direct a boy band movie reuniting him with Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, but Gosling’s apparent interest has allowed the Star Wars film to take priority
The big picture: If Gosling is confirmed to star in Levy’s Star Wars project, filming could potentially begin this fall.
Franchise connections:
Ryan Gosling recently wrapped shooting on Project Hail Mary with Solo: A Star Wars Story original directors Phil Lord & Chris Miller
He also starred in 2017’s Blade Runner 2049 where he shared the screen with franchise legend Harrison Ford
