Skeleton Crew creators recently sat down with Collider and finally revealed the biggest question of the series - what IS Neel?!
In summary:
When Skeleton Crew first aired, fans assumed that Neel was an Ortolan, the same species as Max Rebo from Return of the Jedi.
In a piece on StarWars.com, Kristin Baver confirmed that this was not the case after specifically asking showrunners Jon Watts and Christopher Ford, but no other species was named at the time.
Thanks to a recent chat with Maggie Lovitt, the creators have finally announced that Neel and his family are members of the Myykian species.

There is another species called the Mikkian that features characters such as Tiplee & Tiplar from The Clone Wars and Zeen Mrala from The High Republic Adventures, but the two species bear no relation to each other.
