Key moments:
The Gang’s All Here: Because this story takes place before Order 66 and the developments of The Bad Batch Season 1, we get to see the original Bad Batch working together again. Their teamwork and banter are a refreshing reminder of why we fell in love with this crew in the first place.
From screen to page: Outside of 2023’s Hyperspace Stories #10, this is the first ever Bad Batch adventure outside of television. Michael Moreci perfectly captures the tone of the animated shows, just like he did with The Clone Wars - Battle Tales, to make it feel like we’re reading an episode of the TV show.
Friendly faces: In addition to a quick appearance from Mace Windu, this issue reveals that the Bad Batch’s adversary is the bounty hunter Embo. It’s always fun to run into one of the saga’s many bounty hunters, so fans can be excited about another fun battle with the hat-wielding Kyuzo (and his faithful companion Marrok).
The big picture: It’s been a rough nine months since the Bad Batch ended, but they’re finally back! And most importantly - it feels like they never left. Michael Moreci and Reese Hannigan deliver the beginnings of an adventure story that feels like it jumped right out of the TV and onto the page. While this first issue is a bit light on substance, there’s plenty of thrill to get readers excited about where the story goes. Any fan of the Bad Batch will feel right at home here.
Our rating: Good
