Marvel Comics

Key moments:

  • Man on the run: Despite the book’s title, this issue focuses on his prey–Samu Mavolak. This criminal is on the wrong end of Boba’s bounty but brings a surprising level of heart to the action-heavy series.

  • Boba has a soft side?: Boba Fett is never going to let a bounty go. But it seems that perhaps his feelings for his late father might still let him bend the rules a bit.

  • Oh yeah… the action: Don’t worry - this issue isn’t all heart-to-heart bonding. It’s still a Boba Fett comic, and there is plenty of epic action to go along with it.

The big picture: Boba Fett has enticed Star Wars fans for decades. He’s the best in the business and the very definition of cool. There’s just something fun about watching someone who you know is going to come out on top and look cool doing it. What can be tougher is finding compelling stakes in a story that has a nearly pre-determined outcome, but Saladin Ahmed finds the perfect solution by focusing on Boba’s bounty rather than the hunter himself.

Samu is hardly a good guy - after all, he’s got a bounty on him for a reason. But we see the struggles and motivations within that humanize (Zeltronize?) him. We’re still rooting for Boba to catch him, but it’s interesting to see the balance between the two characters.

The result is another fantastic installment of the Black, White, and Red series. Like its predecessors, this issue is carried by fantastic art – this time from Ramon Rosanas – that make Fett look as cool as he always has been. However the story also backs up the art for a complete package, perfect for any Boba Fett fan.

Our rating: Incredible
