Director Bryce Dallas Howard recently sat down with Collider to talk all about Skeleton Crew and her process of creating one of the best Star Wars shows we’ve seen so far!
Getting the job:
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Howard was initially approached about Skeleton Crew while she was working on Season 3 of The Mandalorian, and even though she has vast Star Wars experience by now, she was still assigned an episode and script by the creators
Howard also revealed the shockingly aggressive timeline presented to Star Wars directors, saying that she came in to work three days after she was hired for the project
The speed of the process also affects Howard’s other jobs as she playfully admitted “I maybe consciously evaluate things against the possibility that they could call for an episode.”

On set:
When describing the younger actors of Skeleton Crew, Howard praised their work ethic saying “These were really, really, really decent, hardworking, intelligent, thoughtful, gracious, humble young professionals.”
Her work with the young cast was based in allowing them to trust their instincts - a technique she saw in action with actor Sam Rockwell when they worked on Argylle together
Perhaps the largest revelation was that Jude Law came up with the pirate shanty in Episode 6! Originally, the scene just featured a poem, but Law came up with the idea to turn the speech into a shanty on set
Be sure to check out the full interview with Collider’s Maggie Lovitt to see why Howard has become such a pivotal part of Star Wars storytelling over the last few years.
Skeleton Crew is streaming now exclusively on Disney+ where you can view Howard’s “Zero Friends Again” as well as brand new episodes releasing every Tuesday.
