According to Variety, screenwriter Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders) has departed the upcoming Star Wars film set to bring back Rey Skywalker.
What we know:
Steven Knight was brought onto the project in 2023 after the departure of original writers Damon Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson.
The announcement comes days after Daisy Ridley promised an imminent update on the project during a Q&A with Collider
The film, announced at Star Wars Celebration Europe 2023, looks to follow Jedi Master Rey Skywalker as she builds the next generation of Jedi
What’s next:
Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel) is still attached to direct the project
Lucasfilm is actively pursuing potential replacement writers
This may push the film away from its expected December 2026 release date to December 2027
The next theatrical Star Wars film is still set to be The Mandalorian and Grogu which is scheduled to release May 22, 2026
