ith the new Star Wars comic series War of the Bounty Hunters launching in one month, StarWars.com has lined up a slate of announcements this week to drum up excitement. In the coming days, there will be unveilings of cover art, concept art, and even a previously unannounced one-shot.
Charles Soule’s epic summer crossover will tell the story of how Han Solo’s carbonite slab made it from Bespin to Jabba’s Palace on Tatooine. This promises to be the largest Star Wars comics event since Marvel reacquired the rights in 2015. You can see our previous breakdown of event launch for more details.
For starters, StarWars.com will showcase a new Giuseppe Camuncoli variant cover from different issues throughout the event. Star Wars fans will most likely recognize Camuncoli for his work on Charles Soule’s Darth Vader: Dark Lord of the Sith. The first cover was shown today, and it is a variant for Doctor Aphra (2020) #12. This issue will serve as one of the tie-ins to the main event series.
Thursdays bring This Week! In Star Wars. And, this week, host Kristin Baver will show another variant cover. It is uncertain which issue this will be for, but it will feature “a certain bounty hunter”.
Friday will have several announcements. Artist Steve McNiven will share his sketchbook for the event. This will contain early sketches and pages, with artist commentary. McNiven is new to Star Wars comics, but is no stranger to Marvel Comics. He has been producing interior art for over 15 years, mostly for smaller runs. He will be penciling the War of the Bounty Hunters Alpha one-shot. Speaking of that issue, they will also unveil 40 variant covers for the one-shot on Friday.
Lastly, Friday will have the announcement of a new one-shot in the series. This will bring the current count of issues to 16, including tie-ins. This number is likely to rise as future solicitations are launched.
You can read the full announcement on StarWars.com. In addition, you can find the first Camuncoli cover on StarWars.com as well.
