Essential Legends Collections Wave 2 Revealed

t’s a big day for Legends fans, as Wave 2 of the Essential Legends Collection has been unveiled. The initiative was announced back in April as a way to get new readers into some of the more popular Legends stories, and it looks like we’ve got more on the way!

The initial wave saw trade paperback releases of Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn, Darth Bane: Path of Destruction by Drew Karpyshyn, and Shatterpoint by Matthew Stover. In addition to new cover art, Shatterpoint received an unabridged audiobook for the first time ever.

This second wave continues with even more great selections from the Legends catalogue. There are four new books coming out in the new format on September 7th, and today we got a sneak peek from Del Rey.

The Darth Bane series continues with Darth Bane: Rule of Two by Drew Karpyshyn. The cover features art from Simon Goinard, who also reimagined the cover for the first book in the series.

Next up is a bit of a surprise. Del Rey has decided to not make the fans wait any longer and will be finishing the Thrawn Trilogy in one move. Timothy Zahn’s Dark Force Rising and The Last Command are also coming out this fall. Tracie Ching provided the new covers for these books, as well as Heir to the Empire earlier this year.

Lastly, we have Michael Stackpole’s groundbreaking title, Rogue Squadron. However, fans of the original may notice something slightly different about this title.

Instead of being a part of the X-Wing series, this is listed as book one of the Rogue Squadron series. The covert art is by Doaly. And, similar to Shatterpoint, Rogue Squadron is getting an unabridged audiobook for the first time. This will be narrated by fan-favorite Marc Thompson.

Del Rey has already promised even more Essential Legends titles coming in 2022, so we have PLENTY to look forward to when it comes to our rich EU history!
