What changed:
On October 30, 2012, George Lucas sold Lucasfilm to the Walt Disney Company
In addition to the acquisition, Disney announced that Star Wars: Episode VII would be released in 2015
Kathleen Kennedy was promoted to President of Lucasfilm and was announced as Executive Producer of future Star Wars films with George Lucas adopting the role of creative consultant
This move followed Disney’s previous acquisitions of both Pixar and Marvel

The value of the transaction was $4.05 billion with half of the price being offered directly in cash
Disney has reportedly generated $12 billion in revenue since the acquisition
Over the last 12 years, Disney has produced 5 feature films and 13 television shows, more than doubling the amount of Canon Star Wars content available for fans
